Egyptian visas : Planning Your Trip
Egyptian visas can be issued at the airport in Cairo or at the port of Alexandria, but it is strongly recommended that you obtain one in advance. Apply by mail or in person at the nearest consulate. Provide the application and (1) your passport, which must be valid at least six months past the date of your planned entry; (2) a passport-sized photo; and (3) the fee, in cash or a certified check (US$ 15 for U.S. citizens; more for dozens of elsewhere). Include a stamped, self-addressed, certified envelope if applying by mail, and allow at least 10 days. If you apply in person, the process takes two to three days. The visa is good for entry within six months from the date of issue, and valid for only one month once there, but easily extended. An Egyptian visa does not permit the holder to work.
When applying, you can request a multiple-entry visa for travel in and out of Egypt, allowing you to reenter any number of times while the visa is valid. Regular visas are available in Tel Aviv, Eilat, Aqaba, and Amman, but not at the borders of Israel or Jordan. Visits to Sinai from Israel or Jordan require special visas, available at the borders; see Travel in the Region: Border Crossings.
