The Mount of Olives
At the bottom of the path, deep in the valley, the Church of All Nations (Basilica of the Agony) faces west toward the Old City. Enter through the gate lo the Garden of Gethsemane, just below the Church of Mary Magdalene. The garden is another place where Jesus purportedly spent his last night in prayer and was betrayed by Judas (Mark 14:3242). Although the site has been venerated since the 4th century, the present building, also designed by Barluzzi, was built after World War I with international support. Within, mosaics depict the last days of Jesus’ life while outside, the facade portrays Jesus bringing peace to all nations. (Open 8:30am-noon and 2:30-6pm; Nov.-March 2:3O-5pm.) The Grotto further downhill is open until 5pm.
