The Jerusalem Forest, just west of Mt. Herzl, is a fine place for picnics; get off tlie bus at the Sonol gas station on Herzl Blvd. near Sha’arei Zedek Hospital. Walk in the direction the bus was traveling, and take the first right onto Yefeh Nof St. The second left, Pirhei Hen St., leads into the forest. Follow tlie road to the Youth Center in the middle of the forest, then proceed along a shady path to the birthplace of John the Baptist in the village of Ein Kerem (see Near Jerusalem).
