The Palestinian National Theater (Al-Hakawati), on Nuzah St. (tel. 28 09 57) near the American Colony Hotel, stages plays that are unabashedly political and quite interesting; English synopses are provided. Walk up Nablus Rd. and take the first right after the intersection with Salah ad-Din St. Walk 100m and the theater will be on your right, at the end of a short driveway. Locals greet visitors cordially, making this an excellent opportunity to experience Palestinian hospitality. The IDF occasionally shuts down the theater, but otherwise, the show goes on.
