Around Beit Guvrin
The right fork leads to Tel Maresha, about 3km southeast of Beit Guvrin. The unbelievable view makes it worth the trip, even if you’re crumbling at the sight of ruins. On a clear day, you can see Tel Aviv and the Mediterranean to the west, and the Jordanian hills and the Dead Sea to the east. The ruins include several Phoenician bell caves, one of which has a stone columbarium with thousands of niches, two decorated graves, and a Crusader basilica nearby. The 60 caves around the ruins contain colorful wildlife drawings.
