Accommodations and Food
Sha’ar haGai St. is lined with falafel stands and self-service restaurants, which wilt stuff just about anything legal into a pita (falafel NIS4, shwarma NIS5, chicken schnitzel NIS7). If you’ve hit falafel bloat, try pizza in Ha’Atzma’ut Sq. (NIS4 per slice) or malawah (NIS5). For fresh fruits and vegetables shop at the open market on Zangwill St., two blocks east of Weizmann Blvd., near the center of town. (Open Sun.-Thurs. 7am-7pm, Fri. 7am-2pm.)
A number of restaurants line the cliffs overlooking the beach. For a meal with a view, try the Mini Golf Restaurant and Pub, 21 Nice Blvd. (tel. 61 77 35), perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. From Ha’Atzma’ut Sq. take King David St. past King Solomon’s Hotel to Nitza Blvd. Their grilled dishes are excellent (NIS18-36) and the atmosphere is relaxing and romantic. (Open Sun.-Thurs. llam-3am, Fri. 1 lam-7pm, Sat. 8:30pm-3am.) Don’t expect to play any golf.
