Practical Information
The two hotels on the Caesarea beach are expensive; head south for cheaper accommodations. Just south of the Roman theater, kibbutz Sdot Yam maintains a number of guest apartments, all ideal for families or for groups of three to four adults. The apartments are located in the center of the kibbutz and have spacious, air-conditioned rooms with private bathroom and shower, small refrigerator, electric kettle, TV, and telephone. Guests are entitled to use of the kibbutz sailing center and private beach, cultural and sports facilities, and archaeological museum. (Dorm beds with 2-5 per room US$29, breakfast included; with full board US$48. Private room US$43, breakfast included; with full board US$55.) Call in advance (tel. (06) 36 44 70, fax 36 22 11). To get to the office, enter the kibbutz through its main gate near the Roman theater. Pass the tile factory and the bus stop, and look for the small white building slightly to the right. If in doubt, ask someone to direct you to the “kef-yam” office. Sdot Yam is also die last stop on the #76 bus.
On the other side of the kibbutz is the Caesarea Sports Center, which maintains several buildings of rooms and a dining hall adjacent to the diving and boating center. The center rents rooms to individuals if space permits. Dorm rooms (5-6 beds per room) in the newer “Beit Gil” building are spotless, air-conditioned, and have private bathroom and shower. (OpenSun.-Thurs., NIS109 per person; Fri.-Sat., NTS127 per person. Full board included.) The other building is older, has communal bathroom and shower, and has no air-tonditioning. (Open Sun.-Thurs., NIS72 per person; Fri.-Sat., NIS85. Full board included.)
