Practical Information
Free Israeli folk dancing at the sports center twice per week. Call in advance (tel. (06) 36 43 94 or 36 13 73, fax 36 15 79 in Caesarea, (03) 56 12 84 for main office in Tel Aviv). The southernmost (and cheapest) option is the Nofshonit “Holiday Village” (tel. (06) 36 29 27 or 36 29 28), just south of the Sports Center. Though many visitors to Caesarea simply unroll their sleeping bags on the beach, devotees of organized camping can pitch a tent here for NIS30. The tentless can rent three-person huts for NIS70. Separate bathroom facilities. Doubles available for US$73 (Sept.-June US$54). Nofshonit is a safer option than the unsupervised beach.
Pack a lunch to avoid the uniformly high prices within the Crusader walls. Otherwise, try the restaurant on top of the Crusader citadel for a great view of the port remains on one side and the city ruins on the other. Another option is to dine at the Sdot Yam kibbutz dining hall where a cafeteria style all-you-can-eat meal is NIS22.50.
