Across the road is the Akhziv Diving Center (tel. 82 36 71), where you can rent a mask, snorkel, and fins for NIS20. Diving classes begin on Sunday and run through Saturday, but they’ll wreck your budget at a hefty NIS800 (a group of 6 or more can request English instruction). An introductory dive hurts slightly less at NIS120 (English available). Call ahead. Just north is Gesher haZiv, one of 11 bridges blown up on the evening of June 16, 1946 ("the night of the bridges") to protest the British closure of Palestine’s ports to Jewish refugees; nearby, the Yad LeYad Memorial honors 14 young members of the Hagana killed in an attempt on another bridge.

Much more attractive than Akhzivland are the campsite and hostel, both a short distance up the road. The enormous Akhziv Campground (tel. 82 50 54) has 250 tent sites at NIS20 per adult. Two- and four-person bungalows cost NIS40 per adult. Mobile homes for two cost NIS170. Expensive cabins with air-conditioning, bath, and breakfast also available (doubles NISI80, triples MS240, quads NIS280). Prices are about 15% lower in the off-season. On site are a kitchen and minimarket. Locked refrigerator boxes rent for NIS8. Campers can rent mattresses for NIS8, and electric light cables can be connected to your tent for NTS8.
