Mail can usually be sent internationally through Poste Restante (the international phrase for General Delivery). Mark the envelope “HOLD” and address it “Name, Poste Restante, City, Country.” The mail will go to a special desk in the central post office for that city, unless you specify a particular office. American Express offers its own mail-holding system, Client Letter Service (free for clients; others may use the service for a nominal fee set by the office of destination, but buying a few AmEx Travelers Cheques is enough to make you a client). Check with AmEx (see Traveler’s Checks, above) for details.
