Orientation And Practical Information
To reach the Egyptian border and cross into the Sinai, take bus #15 from a stop across from the central bus station or from stops along HaTmarim Blvd. and Ha’Arava Rd. (except Fri. 5pm-Sat. 9am). Taxis to the border cost NIS15-2O. You’ll get off at the Israeli checkpoint since no Israeli buses or taxis are allowed into Egypt (look for the Israeli flags marking the station; open 24 hrs.).
For a jaunt to Taba Beach (where you’ll find a Hilton, a more secluded beach, and great snorkeling), you must present your passport at the border. The passport will not be stamped, but it is the only acceptable form of identification. As always at Egyptian borders, declare all cash and valuables so that they will not be confiscated upon your return. There is more bureaucracy involved in getting deeper into the Sinai and Egypt; see Essentials: Travel in the Region for border crossing information, and Getting There under Sinai for travel directions.
