Intercity Transportation
Buses traveling between major cities leave frequently throughout the day. Buses to and from the Sinai and the Oases often depart only early in the morning. If possible, go to the station the day before to confirm departure times.
Numbers and destinations on Egyptian buses are normally written only in Arabic. If you’re in doubt about which bus to take, ask directions. The conductors who sit at the kiosks at Tahrir, Ramses, and the other main terminals can be helpful.
A bus service connects Cairo to Tel Aviv. Buses leave from either the Sinai Station at Abbassiya Sq. or in front of the main entrance to the Cairo Sheraton in Dokki. The Sheraton provides a daily service leaving at 5:30am (LE85, round-trip LE125). Buses depart from the Sinai Terminal at 8am Mondays and Wednesdays (US$20, round-trip US$35). Reserve either service one day in advance. Call the Sinai terminal (tel. 82 47 53) or the Cairo Sheraton (tel. 348 8600) for more information.
