Suez
Suez
Located at the junction of the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, Suez (As-Suweis) city’s oil refineries and countless ships spew out smoke and fumes in an attempt to equal the air Quality of Mexico City if it was on Venus. The city itself is quite clean, however (relative to Cairo or Alexandria, anyway), and the people have an air of wealth and contentment.
Nonetheless, the fact is that the only sights in Suez are the canal and the gulf; most travelers simply pass through en route from Cairo to the Sinai by way of the tunnel under the canal 30km north of town, or on their way south along the Red Sea coast. The political situation isn’t helping any; concern about terrorism has made the community a little wary of transients.
