Practical Information
Airport: Queen Alia International Airport, 35km south of Amman. Buses leave from the airport for Abdali Bus Station every 30min. (5:30am-9pm, 750fils). Bank and tourist office (tel. (08) 53 070; bank open 24 hrs.) in the airport. Jordanian visas available at the airport upon arrival, but good for only a month There is a JD10 exit fee.
Intercity Buses: JETT (tel. 66 41 46, fax 50 60 05), air-conditioned buses to King Hussein/Allenby Bridge (Sun.-Fri. 6:30am, JD6); to Petra (6:30am, JD10; round-trip tour including guide, horse, and lunch JD30); to Aqaba (7am, 9am, 11am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 4pm, JD4). Also to Damascus (7am, 3pm, JD4.500); to Cairo (Sam, JD30); to Baghdad (9am, 11am, JD12 plusJD4 departure tax). Reserve at least one day in advance, especially to bridge, Aqaba. and Petra. Office open daily 8am-6pm. Fares to Jerash are 320fils (370fils with A/C), to Ajlun 500fils, to Irbid 570fils (SlOfils with A/C), to Salt 175fils, and to the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge 810fiIs. Service Taxis: fares from Abdali Station are 470fils to Jerash, 690fils to Ajlun, 850fils to Irbid, 300fils to Salt, and JD1.150 to the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge-continuing on from Irbid, it’s 285fils to Umm Qeis and 460fils to Al-Hamma. From Wahadat Station, fares are 33Ofils to Madaba, JD1.180 to Karak down the King’s Highway, andJDI.870to Ma’anviathe newer Desert Highway. AtMa’an you can transfer for service to Wadi Musa (Petra) and Aqaba (475fils and JD1.130, respectively). All prices are government regulated.
