Cliff Hotel, King Faisal St. (tel. 62 42 73), at the top of the street across from the “Seiko” fork, at the base of King Hussein St. On the 3rd floor. One of the most popular budget places in Amman. Cheap and clean, with an excellent view of a cafe scene across the street. Sinks in each room and reliable luggage storage. Helpful manager Abu Suleiman has more information than the Ministry of Tourism and will write out taxi directions in Arabic. Singles JD3.300. Doubles JD5. Hot shower 500fils, laundry free. Often full.
Bader Hotel, Prince Muhammad St. (tel. 63 76 02, fax 65 17 82), up the alley opposite the Cliff Hotel on King Faisal St., a few blocks down from post office. Dark, maze-like corridors with seemingly orange walls. Plain, airy rooms with bathrooms. Small valuables can be locked up for free. Singles JD5. Doubles JD7.
