Practical Information
Air Travel: Royal Jordanian (tel. 31 44 77) has regular flights to and from Amman (about 45min., one way JD15.600, round-trip JD18 if you stay 2-10 days). Buses from Aqaba International Airport to the center of the city are run by various hotels. The trip by taxi costs JD2 per person.
Buses and Service: Station 2 blocks uphill of Ailah Sq. Serves points north of Aqaba. Minibuses to Petra (6;30am and 11am, return 3pm, one-way JD2). Buses to Wadi Rum (6:30am, return 3pm, JD1.500). Regular taxis offer groups (max. 4 people) quick transport to Petra 0D25). You can find taxis to Wadi Rum (lhr., round-trip JD15). Taxis to Aqaba ferry terminal (10km, JD1.500). The JETT Buses station is lkm west of Ailah Sq. (tel. 31 52 22), on the corner of a dumpy shopping complex by the Miramar Hotel. Regular bus service to Amman only (7 buses daily: 7am4pm; 4hr.; JD4). Best to reserve in advance. JETT buses are luxury class, with hostess service, A/C, and videos.
Ferries to Egypt: Jordanian National Lines to Nuweiba in the Sinai (daily, around 1 lam, 2pm, and 4pm; 3′/ihr.; US$20 plus JD6 departure tax). Multi-hr. waits are not uncommon. Buses from Nuweiba to Cairo meet the boats (6-10hr., LE25).
